Reward and Drop Chest Animation
Give River uses animated characters and visual sequences to celebrate recognition moments. Rather than a static confirmation screen, earning or sending a drop triggers a short, celebratory animation that makes the moment feel meaningful and rewarding.
When Animations Play
Give River's reward animations appear at two key moments:
- After sending a recognition drop — a brief animated sequence plays before transitioning to the Map of Good Deeds.
- On the Map of Good Deeds — a multi-part animated experience marks where your good deed landed and celebrates your contribution.
The Drop Animation Sequence
When you complete a recognition, the following animated sequence plays:
1. The Running Drop
A water-drop character animates across the top of the Map of Good Deeds screen. The character runs across the screen for approximately three seconds, representing your drop traveling to its destination.
This animation is built using Rive, a real-time animation system that creates smooth, fluid motion directly within the app.
2. Camera Reveal
As the drop animation finishes, the map camera zooms out gradually — from a street-level view to a neighborhood overview — panning to give you a sense of scale and impact. The transition uses smooth step-based camera movement for a cinematic feel.
3. UGO Appears
Give River's mascot, UGO, appears in the corner of the screen as a Rive-animated character. UGO holds a speech bubble displaying a randomly chosen motivational quote. Each quote celebrates the act of recognition and encourages continued participation.
4. Season Standings Slide Up
A bottom card slides up from the screen edge, revealing your current season standing:
- Your personal rank for the active season
- Your organization's charitable giving rank
This card anchors the celebration in real competitive context, showing you the tangible effect of your action on the leaderboard.
UGO: Give River's Animated Mascot
UGO is the primary animated character in Give River's celebration moments. The character is rendered using Rive animation, which allows smooth, looping, and reactive animations that respond naturally to the app's state.
UGO appears:
- On the Map of Good Deeds after each recognition
- In various motivational moments throughout the app
Each UGO appearance includes a quote randomly selected from a curated library of positive, encouraging messages. No two appearances feel exactly the same.
For more about UGO's role across the app, see UGO Mascot.
The Reward Experience in the Drop Shop
When you successfully redeem a reward or gift card in the Drop Shop, the app confirms your redemption with a visual confirmation. This reinforces the value of the drops you have earned and makes the exchange feel like a genuine reward moment.
Why Animations Matter
The animated celebration sequence serves several purposes:
- Reinforcement — Visual celebration makes the act of recognition feel significant, not transactional.
- Delight — Unexpected, well-timed animations increase emotional engagement with the platform.
- Context — The map and season standings shown during the animation connect individual moments to team-wide impact.
- Habit formation — Positive feedback loops (action → celebration → visible impact) encourage members to recognize teammates more frequently.
Technical Notes for Admins
- Animations use the Rive runtime, not Lottie. Rive assets are bundled with the app and do not require a network connection to play.
- The UGO character asset is stored in the app's bundled assets (
AppAssets.ugoRive). - Animation performance is optimized for both mobile and web — the same animated assets render across all platforms.
- No admin configuration is required to enable or disable the drop animations. They play automatically as part of the recognition flow.
