Admin: Audiences & Saved Segments
Everywhere you decide who something is for, Give River uses the same Who is this for? picker. It appears in:
- Engage › River Runs › Assignments — Assign / Edit assignment (Required Training)
- Engage › Announcements — Create / Edit announcement
- Engage › Polls — Create / Edit / Duplicate poll
- Engage › Surveys — the Participants step, under Pick by audience
The picker
| Choice | Who it covers |
|---|---|
| Everyone | Every active member of your company |
| People | Specific people you pick by name |
| Teams & groups | Members of the chosen chat groups and season teams |
| Locations | Members at the chosen locations |
| Departments | Members in the chosen departments |
| Roles | Members with the chosen job titles (positions) |
| Saved segments | Everyone a saved segment matches today |
People, teams & groups, locations, departments and roles combine as "anyone who matches at least one". Choosing the Denver location and the Safety crew group covers everyone in Denver plus everyone in Safety crew.
Under the choices, the picker shows how many members match right now. Only active members count: people who have left, or whose membership is inactive, are never included.
Saved segments
A saved segment is a named audience you can reuse. It's a rule, not a list: it's checked again every time it's used, so a new hire in Boston is in Boston on their first day, and someone who leaves drops out straight away.
Saving a segment
There are two ways:
- From the picker. Choose people, groups, locations, departments or roles, then click Save as segment under the member count and give it a name. The segment matches anyone who fits at least one of those choices.
- From the Member List. In Our Team › Member List, filter by location, department, manager, recognition activity and/or join date, then click Save as segment next to the filter button. This segment matches members who fit all of those filters — for example Boston, joined in the last 90 days and no recognition in 30 days. Search, role and status filters aren't saved.
Using a segment
In any picker, click Saved segments and choose one. A segment is used on its own (it replaces the other choices). The list shows how many members each segment matches today.
What a segment can check
| Condition | Matches members who… |
|---|---|
| Location, department, role | have one of the chosen values on their profile |
| Teams & groups | are in one of the chosen groups |
| Manager | report to one of the chosen people |
| Joined recently | joined in the last N days (their HRIS hire date or joining date when set) |
| Recognition activity | neither gave nor received recognition in the last N days |
| People | are named in it |
Deleting a segment
Open Saved segments in any picker and click the bin icon next to the segment. A segment that an active assignment, a live announcement or an unsent poll still uses can't be deleted — change their audience first. This way nothing is ever left with an empty audience.
How each feature uses the audience
| Feature | When the audience is worked out |
|---|---|
| Required Training | When you save, and again for people who join later if Auto-assign new members is on |
| Announcements | Every time a member opens Home — changes take effect straight away |
| Polls | When the poll is sent (its schedule date, or Send Poll) — the audience can't change after that |
| Surveys | When you click Select these N people — the survey then goes to that fixed list |
Who can use it
Company admins can use the picker and save or delete segments. People with a role that manages River Runs, Announcements, Polls or Events can use the picker and pick saved segments; saving and deleting segments needs an admin or the Manage team permission.
