Riverside Chat — Group Chat and Direct Messaging

Riverside Chat is the in-app messaging system inside Give River. It supports one-to-one direct messages and group chats, including special charity and cause channels tied to your team's recognition programme.

Chat Types

A cause channel in Riverside Chat, grouping people around a shared cause.
Type Description
Direct message (1-to-1) Private conversation between two users
Group chat (basic) Custom group with a name, image, and description
Charity channel Group chat linked to a specific charity
Cause channel Group chat linked to a social cause
Feedback channel Group chat for team feedback

Starting a Direct Message

  1. Tap the Chat icon in the navigation bar.
  2. Tap the compose/new-chat button.
  3. Search for a colleague by name or username.
  4. Tap their name to open a conversation.
  5. Type your message and tap Send.

Creating a Group Chat

  1. Tap the Chat icon in the navigation bar.
  2. Tap New Group.
  3. Select the teammates you want to add from the contact list. Use the search bar to filter by name.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. Enter a group name, optionally add a description, and optionally upload a group image.
  6. Tap Create Group to start the chat.

Sending Messages

Inside any chat room you can:

  • Type text and tap Send
  • Tap the attachment icon to send images or videos from your gallery
  • Tap the camera icon to take a photo and send it immediately
  • Tap and hold the microphone icon to record and send a voice message
  • Tap the image edit icon to annotate an image before sending

Message Actions

Long-press any message to:

  • Star the message (saves it to your Starred Messages list)
  • Reply to a specific message
  • Copy the message text
  • Delete the message (your own messages only)

Starred Messages

Tap the star icon in the chat header to view all messages you have starred in that conversation. Starred messages are saved per chat room.

Group Chat Settings and Info

Tap the group name or avatar at the top of a group chat to open the chat overview. From there you can:

  • View group Details (name, description, member count, drops and tokens for charity/cause channels)
  • See all Members
  • Invite new members (for charity and cause channels)

Group admins can also:

  • Edit the group name, description, and image
  • Remove members
  • Change the chat wallpaper

Chat Wallpapers

Inside any chat room, open the settings menu and tap Wallpaper to choose a background image for that conversation. Wallpapers are stored per chat and are visible only to you.

Each chat has a dedicated Media tab that shows all images and videos shared in that conversation, organized in a grid. Tap any item to view it full screen.

Charity and Cause Channels

Charity and cause group chats work the same as basic group chats but display additional stats — total drops and tokens earned by that group — in the Details tab. Your primary charity channel appears on your My River dashboard.
