Give River for Microsoft Teams: Installation Guide

Overview

The Give River extension for Microsoft Teams brings our powerful employee recognition, engagement, and team-building platform directly into your MS Teams environment. This integration allows your team to effortlessly give and receive recognition, participate in team challenges, and build a culture of appreciation without leaving the MS Teams interface.  Give River respects your privacy and protects your data. Prerequisites

Before installing the Give River extension for Microsoft Teams, ensure you have:

  • An active Give River account and subscription for your organization
  • Microsoft Teams installed and properly configured
  • Administrator rights to your Microsoft Teams environment (for administrators installing the extension)
  • Microsoft Teams version 1.4.00 or higher
  • A supported browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari)

Installation Process

  1. Access Microsoft Teams Admin Center
  2. Install the Give River App
    • Search for "Give River" in the Microsoft Teams app store
    • Select the Give River application
    • Click "Add to Team" in the column header
    • Click "Apply" to complete the installation
    • Select the team(s) where you want to install Give River
      • Note: You may need to search for the teams if they are not immediately visible. You can find your Team names in the Teams Application interface.
  3. Connect the Give River Teams App to your Give River Account
    • Navigate to your Microsoft 365 Teams App
    • Open your “Chats”, and you will see a new message from Give River. Tap the “Connect Your Team” in the chat message.
    • Enter your Team ID and Team Token into the popup window
      • Note: If you have not been provided with your ID and Token, open a separate browser tab to www.giveriver.app and login to Give River with an administrator account. Navigate to Settings > Integrations > MS Teams Workspace and tap on the Team icon.
    • The Give River chat should update with a succesful connection message.  If you receive an error message (or no message at all). Please verify the ID and Token or contact us at support@giveriver.com.
  4. Connect the Give River Teams App to your Teams Channels
    • Still in the Microsoft 365 Teams App, tap the “Apps” icon at the bottom of the sidebar
    • In the section “Built for your organization”, tap “Open” on the Give River card.
    • Search for and select a channel that you wish to add the Give River extension to and then tap “Go”.
      • Note: Due to Microsoft Team’s limitations, you currently cannot select multiple channels at a time. This step must be done individually for every channel that users will use with the Give River extension
  1. Verify Installation
    • Navigate to a Channel where the Give River Teams App has been added
    • Tap “Start a Post”
    • Tap the “+” icon in the lower left side
    • In the popup window that appears, search for Give River and tap to select (you may need to scroll down)
    • If the window appears without error, then you’re all set!
